Completed sales of comparable guns: closed GunBroker listings, results from major houses like Rock Island, and dealer transaction archives matched by make, model, caliber, and condition. Asking prices are only meaningful when closed sales back them up, so appraisers document sold results and adjust for condition and accessories.
It can. Oregon taxes estates above $1 million at graduated rates of roughly 10 to 16 percent, a far lower threshold than the federal exclusion, so a meaningful gun collection can help push an Oregon estate into filing territory. Item-level fair market value documentation for the collection matters far more there than in states with no estate tax.
Appraisers apply NRA Condition Standards and percent-of-original-finish measures, verify serial numbers and matching components, inspect the bore, and test mechanical function.
