Often, yes. Certificates from PSA/DNA, JSA, or Beckett Authentication can be the single largest driver of price differences, and unverified autographs are typically heavily discounted. Our reports document the authentication service and certification number for each signed piece.
No. Several Ohio probate courts waive formal appraisal when household tangible property falls under a local threshold, such as $5,000 in Brown County or $6,000 in Butler County, unless the court orders otherwise. Higher-value or hard-to-value memorabilia must be appraised by a disinterested person who signs the Form 6.0 inventory.
A qualified appraisal is required when the claimed value of donated property exceeds $5,000, reported on IRS Form 8283, and donations over $500,000 require attaching the full appraisal to the return. Mass-produced commemorative items rarely support the values owners expect, which is exactly what an appraisal sorts out before the IRS does.
