  • Medical and diagnostic testing equipment
  • Transportation and logistics equipment including trucks, trailers, and fleet vehicles

Across 16 published New Mexico appraisal reviews, every one from a client who paid AppraiseItNow for an appraisal, the three things they raise most often are that they would hire us again, how quickly we answer, and how much research is visible in the report.

  • I recommend AppraiseItNow Inc. highly. I needed an appraisal of fair market value for geologic laboratory equipment for charitable donations to three universities. The unique items and limited secondary market complicated the valuation. They provided a sound, verifiable estimate and the 8283 forms that I was able to use in my tax filings. I would use them again.

Lab Equipment Appraisal for Charitable Donation

  • AppraiseItNow did an outstanding job appraising my 1998 Bobcat Skid Steer and circa 2010 Yuchai Crawler Dozer. We could not locate a serial number on the dozer, and there were no online sales available, but they were still able to develop an accurate appraisal using known specifications for my dozer compared to other comparable make and model dozers. They diligently researched both equipment items and provided well-documented reports.

Machinery & Equipment Appraisal for Bankruptcy Filing

  • They did an appraisal of medical equipment for donation. They did it quickly, and I received a blank form 8283 signed by the appraiser. It was what I needed. The price was higher than I wanted to spend on an appraisal, but a lot lower than other appraisers. AppraiseItNow was very responsive and communicative, and the other appraisers were not. I would use them again.

Frequently Asked Questions on New Mexico Equipment Appraisers

When must New Mexico businesses report equipment for property tax?

On or before the last day of February each year, filed with the Property Tax Division's State Assessed Property Bureau in Santa Fe, with all property valued as of January 1. Filers who need more time must submit form CAB-EXT. Business equipment, furniture, fixtures, and computers are all taxable personal property under Section 7-36-33.

Does accounting depreciation tell me what my machinery is worth?

No. Book value reflects accounting policies and accrued depreciation, not observable resale prices or replacement economics, and professional guidance treats the two as distinct. An appraisal adjusts for actual market conditions, physical wear, and obsolescence, which is why appraised values routinely diverge from the balance sheet for New Mexico equipment.

What goes into the market approach for equipment?

Documented transactions for comparable machines. We pull sales evidence from auction platforms such as MachineryTrader, IronPlanet, and BidSpotter plus dealer listings and manufacturer data, then adjust observed prices for age, hours, brand, configuration, and location before reconciling to a conclusion that reflects how the equipment actually trades.

Which machines actually become taxable personal property in New Mexico?

Only those the owner has depreciated for federal income tax purposes. Section 7-36-8(B)(7) NMSA reaches business machinery and equipment when a federal depreciation deduction, Section 179 included, was claimed in a tax year falling within the 12 months before the property tax year begins. Equipment never depreciated federally sits outside that reporting requirement, which surprises owners of fully expensed or inherited machines.

Is large construction equipment valued differently in New Mexico?

Yes. N.M. Admin. Code 3.6.5.40 sets a special method for large off the road highway construction equipment used by contractors, with the owner reporting tangible property cost by county and by calendar year of use and the county applying percentage factors from a schedule. That formula is a tax computation, not a market opinion, so contractors financing or selling machines still need values built from sales evidence.
