For regulated financial statement purposes, up to four years: Missouri rule 2 CSR 60-4.130 accepts an appraisal for four years from its date unless value has dropped significantly, and notably will not accept one dated within a year of the asset's purchase. For lending and legal uses, the receiving party sets its own recency expectations.
Assessors annually list tangible personal property and assess it at one-third of true value as of January 1, applying statutory depreciation schedules to many classes. Those schedules are blunt instruments, so an independent appraisal is the standard way to contest an assessment that has drifted from market reality.
For each item: make, model, serial number, year, capacity and configuration, purchase date and cost, condition, and maintenance history. That documentation lets the appraiser match each machine to genuine comparables and support remaining economic life, rather than defaulting to conservative assumptions.
Mainly to complete production lines and asset groups that generate identifiable earnings as a unit. For individual machines, the market and cost approaches govern, so a valuation quoting discounted cash flow for a single standalone machine deserves skepticism.
