  • I recommend AppraiseItNow Inc. highly. I needed an appraisal of fair market value for geologic laboratory equipment for charitable donations to three universities. The unique items and limited secondary market complicated the valuation. They provided a sound, verifiable estimate and the 8283 forms that I was able to use in my tax filings. I would use them again.

Lab Equipment Appraisal for Charitable Donation

  • AppraiseItNow did an outstanding job appraising my 1998 Bobcat Skid Steer and circa 2010 Yuchai Crawler Dozer. We could not locate a serial number on the dozer, and there were no online sales available, but they were still able to develop an accurate appraisal using known specifications for my dozer compared to other comparable make and model dozers. They diligently researched both equipment items and provided well-documented reports.

Machinery & Equipment Appraisal for Bankruptcy Filing

  • They did an appraisal of medical equipment for donation. They did it quickly, and I received a blank form 8283 signed by the appraiser. It was what I needed. The price was higher than I wanted to spend on an appraisal, but a lot lower than other appraisers. AppraiseItNow was very responsive and communicative, and the other appraisers were not. I would use them again.

Frequently Asked Questions on Indiana Equipment Appraisers

What are Indiana's filing rules for business equipment values?

Personal property with Indiana tax situs as of January 1 must be reported by May 15 each year, with Form 104 filed alongside Form 102 or 103. County assessors certify those values for tax billing, so a defensible equipment listing protects against over-assessment.

Which auction platforms inform machinery values in Indiana?

Appraisers pull comparable sales from auction databases and listing services such as BidSpotter, MachineryTrader, and IronPlanet, along with dealer offerings and manufacturer information. Observed prices are then adjusted for age, hours, condition, and configuration to fit the subject equipment.

When does the income approach matter for equipment?

Mainly for production lines and grouped assets with an identifiable earnings stream, where value is conceptually tied to the combined asset set. For individual Indiana machines, the cost and market approaches remain the primary tools, and our reports weight them accordingly.

Can fully depreciated machinery drop to scrap value on an Indiana tax roll?

Not generally, because a floor applies. Under 50 IAC 4.2-4-8 the total valuation of a taxpayer’s assessable depreciable personal property in a taxing district cannot be less than 30 percent of its adjusted acquisition cost, so obsolete or written-off machines still carry assessed value. Market appraisals of those same assets often land well below the floor, which is one reason the two numbers diverge.

Is a production machine in an Indiana plant real property or personal property?

Personal property, when it is directly used in manufacturing. 50 IAC 4.2-4-10 provides that the use of a unit of machinery, equipment, or structure determines its classification, and units directly used for manufacturing or a manufacturing process are personal property while land and building improvements are real property. Presses, CNC machines, and line equipment are reported accordingly rather than valued with the building.
