Closed-sale evidence beats listed asking prices, and for specialized equipment with thin markets we support the conclusion with a cost approach based on replacement cost less depreciation.
Make, model, and serial number for each machine, plus hours, attachments, configuration, and maintenance history. Missing serial numbers, unknown hours, or undocumented rebuilds force more conservative estimates because the appraiser cannot support adjustments with confidence, so good records directly protect your value conclusion.
No, and confusing them is the most costly owner mistake. Replacement cost, asking prices, and insurance values can materially overstate what older or specialized equipment would actually bring in the market once depreciation and obsolescence are accounted for. A proper report states which value premise it concludes, such as fair market value versus liquidation value.
