The Blue Book is the industry's longest-standing reference with condition-based pricing for tens of thousands of models, but even its proponents note it can lag the active market, so professionals corroborate its figures against recent completed sales before finalizing an appraised value.
Using standardized criteria such as the NRA Condition Standards (New, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair) and percentage-of-original-finish systems. The examination covers serial number verification, matching components, authentication of manufacturer marks, original versus refinished surfaces, bore condition, and mechanical function, because small grade changes materially change value on collectible arms.
As community property: guns acquired during the marriage are generally subject to substantially equal division, and valuation is usually tied to the date the dissolution petition was served or another date the court sets. A documented fair market value appraisal of the collection keeps the division grounded in real market evidence.
Everything above $2,000. Arizona Revised Statutes section 33-1125(10) exempts firearms only up to an aggregate fair market value of $2,000 per debtor in bankruptcy and judgment enforcement, so item-by-item documented values determine which guns fit under the cap and which are exposed.

Arizona has no purchase permit, no registration, and bars localities from creating firearm records, so appraisers substantiate provenance and acquisition dates through bills of sale, FFL transfer records, and auction catalogs.
